2019 Borderland Film Festival - FESTIVAL de CINE de los NOGALES

Tentative Schedule

Thursday, November 7

Opening night will be held at Museo de Arte de Nogales (Sonora) and will be celebrating the 10th year anniversary of the docufilm “389 Miles” by Luis Carlos Davis who is a film maker from los dos Nogales. It is a study of illegal immigration along the Arizona- Sonora border that was done 10 years ago and is still totally relevant today. The film maker will give a presentation on the making of the movie.

There will be an Opening Event in Nogales, AZ also during the day at the Oasis Cinema Showing movies made by local High School students and a Q and A discussion by well known Directors from Los Angeles and Mexico City with the High School students in Attendance.

 

Friday, November 8

Movies, Documentaries and short Films during the day with an emphasis on the border by local and International film makers, and  major Motion picture movies that were made in Santa Cruz County. There will also be an activity/event sponsored by the Superintendent of Schools that involves 8th grade students from Santa Cruz County. This event called “The One Minute Miracle” comprises the students having made a one minute movie on their phones with the objective of how difficult it is to make one minute of recording interesting. The recordings will be compiled into one film  and shown on the big screen with a discussion to be held with the visiting directors and producers in attendance.

Saturday, November 9

Movies, documentaries and short films to be shown in both Nogales, AZ and Nogales, Sonora during the day, including a comparison of Mexicos foremost comedian Cantinflas and the US star Charlie Chaplin. In the evening our main presentation 

 “The Film at the Fence”  will take place which is an event that has screens set up on both sides of the International Border Fence and major motion picture “Un Dia Sin Mexicanos”  “A Day Without A Mexican” by Sergio Arau will simultaneously be screened in both countries with a symbolic attempt at erasing the border for a few hours.

Music festival following with bands playing on both sides of the border.

Sunday, November 10

A selection of Movies filmed in Santa Cruz County and Nogales, Sonora over the past one hundred years  to be shown in Nogales, AZ and Nogales Sonora, also to be screened is the comparison of Mexican comedian Cantinflas and US comedian Charlie Chaplin.

Tours to historic local film locations in Santa Cruz County.

Closing Tardeada Ceremony and presentation of awards.
